Mary McNutt is  the Voice of Addiction. For decades Mary McNutt has been focused on a single mission: to be the voice of addiction. She has a lot to say about the subject of addiction as she studies the field, constantly echoing “For sure it has no boundaries .”

Her clients describe her as an addiction psychotherapist with a brilliant mind, tremendous compassion, and great sorrow for those suffering from the disease of addiction. Mary says “Doing this work has been a journey would be an understatement of epic proportion. It has been an honor to devote my life to those suffering from the evil disease of addiction.” Mary has crafted her therapeutic style as a person-centered artisan listening and paying attention to every detail of her client’s story and pain.  For some clients it is like the first time their story was ever heard.  Mary believes in empowering the client and invests countless hours (on call 24/7) teaching clients how to change the paradigms of their thinking errors, moving past their woundedness and finding resolve from something they have carried for a long time by releasing it to God everyday.  Her therapeutic style is infused with compassion, empathy, trust, and utmost confidentiality, leaving no stone unturned in getting at the root of the addiction, whether it be emotionally driven, a chemical dependency, or both.  The root may be wounds from the past, whether it is abuse or betrayal or loss or heartache, the weight of consequences from choices that were made or forced on one to make, the ways of habits one may be trying to break, toxic relationships one is trying to free themselves from, or even struggles to find out who one is apart from someone who tried to make you be someone who wasn’t your true genuine self.  She credits her clients, commenting often that “I have learned more about addiction from addicts than any book. I owe a great deal to my clients and my life working with them has been enriched beyond measure.”

Mary’s grandchildren call her “Goldilocks.” This endearing identity prompted her to start “Goldilocks Wisdom,” a daily spiritual message of love, motivation, and hope for all to read and find personal meaning.

Mary divides her time seeing celebrity and high profile clients both in Minneapolis and Maui (Kihei) Hawaii.

As I have worked in the field of addiction, the ravages of what I have seen addiction do has brought me to tears. Individuals and families, particularly our young people, know not what drugs will do to the structure of their brains. It brings devastation to their lives and their families. It makes me deeply and profoundly both sad and angry.  This is why AIRR of Maui was born.
